The CAT5112 is a single digit POT suitable for use as an electronic replacement for mechanical potentiometers. Ideal for automatic adjustments on high-volume production lines, but also in applications where equipment requiring periodic adjustments is difficult to access or located in hazardous or remote environments. The CAT5112 consists of a 32-tap series resistor array connected between the RH and RL terminals. Up/down counter and decoder controlled by three input pins to determine which tap is connected to the wiper RW. The CAT5112 wipers are buffered by rail-to-rail operational amplifiers. Wiper settings stored in non-volatile memory are not lost when power is removed from the device and are automatically recalled when power is restored. Wipers can be adjusted to test new system values without affecting stored settings. The wiper control of CAT5112 is done through three input control pins CS, U/D and INC. The INC input advances the wiper in the direction determined by the logic state of the U/D input. The CS input is used to select the device and is also used to store the wiper position prior to power down. This digital potentiometer can be used as a buffered voltage divider. For applications where the potentiometer is used as a 2-terminal variable resistor, please refer to CAT5114. CAT5112 buffer wipers are not compatible with this application.
