The NCV7356 is a physical layer device for single-wire data links capable of operating with multiple Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA/CR) protocols with collision resolution, such as Bosch Controller Area Network (CAN) version 2.0. This serial data link network is suitable for applications that do not require high-speed data, and low-speed data can achieve cost reduction in physical media components and microprocessors and/or application-specific logic devices using this network. The network should be able to operate in either normal data rate mode or high speed data download mode, suitable for assembly line and service data transmission operations. High-speed mode only operates when the bus connects off-board service nodes. This node should provide temporary bus electronic loads for higher speed operation. Such temporary load should be eliminated when no download runs are performed. The typical bit rate for normal communication is 33 kbit/s and for the above mentioned high speed transmission the typical recommended bit rate is 83 kbit/s. The NCV7356 is designed according to the single-wire CAN physical layer specification GMW3089 V2.3, and supports many additional features such as under-voltage lockout, fault blocking input signal timeout, output interval time on bus ringing, and very low sleep mode current.
